Evri

Evri

Evri is one of the UK's largest parcel carriers, headquartered in Leeds and tracing its origins back to 1974. Known as Hermes UK until rebranding to Evri in March 2022, the company expanded significantly following its 2025 merger with DHL eCommerce UK, in which DHL Group acquired a minority stake. Today, the combined group delivers over 1 billion parcels and 1 billion business letters annually across the UK and to 220+ global destinations.

How Evri Tracking Works

Tracking number

Every parcel handled by Evri receives a unique 16-character tracking code (comprising both letters and numbers), which corresponds to the main barcode printed on the shipping label. Merchant sellers send this reference via email, while individual senders receive it upon booking confirmation.

Additional reference formats include:

  • 8-digit Calling Card Code: If a courier attempts delivery while you are away, they leave a card containing an 8-digit reference code that can be entered directly into Evri's tracking tool.

  • Print In ParcelShop Reference: Returns printed in-store display a long barcode reference number underneath the printed shipping label.

Tracking status

Evri writes its statuses in plain first-person English rather than logistics jargon:

  • We're expecting it — the sender has told Evri to expect the parcel; Evri doesn't physically have it yet

  • We've got it — in the network, being processed or routed

  • On its way — moving through the network, or delayed; delivery or collection planned soon

  • Out for delivery — with the courier, due today, sometimes with a time window

  • Update on your parcel — delivery attempted or delayed; another attempt will follow, or it's going back to the sender

  • Delivered — delivered to the address or to a secure location

  • Ready for collection — at a ParcelShop or locker, waiting for you

  • Collected — picked up from the ParcelShop

Three of these mislead people. 'We're expecting it' reads like the parcel is moving when the sender still has it — a parcel stuck there is a retailer problem, not an Evri one. 'On its way' deliberately covers both normal movement and delay, so it doesn't mean today. And 'Update on your parcel' sounds neutral but is the exception status: a failed attempt, a delay, or a return.

On safe place deliveries, Evri photographs the parcel where it was left and includes the photo in the delivery email — including for letterbox deliveries, where the courier photographs it before posting. You can set one delivery preference only: either a safe place or a neighbour, not both.

Supported services

  • Standard & Next Day Delivery — 2–4 business days standard delivery alongside express next-day options.

  • 7-Day Delivery — operational deliveries across weekends.

  • ParcelShop & Locker Services — drop-off, collection, and returns via local ParcelShops and automated lockers.

  • Home Courier Pickup — scheduled parcel collections directly from residential or business addresses.

  • Evri International — cross-border shipping serving over 200 countries and territories.

  • In-App Management — mobile parcel tracking, delivery diversions, and preference updates.

Every parcel travelling through the network is tracked — Evri says so plainly, and the 16-character code is issued to all of them.

Evri today

Worth a line for readers who remember the old names: Hermes UK became Evri in March 2022. In October 2025 DHL's UK e-commerce business merged into Evri, forming the Evri Group, with the DHL eCommerce UK network rebranding to Evri Premium during 2026. The group also handles business mail through UK Mail — business letters, not stamped consumer posts.

FAQs About Evri Parcel Tracking

What happens if an Evri courier cannot find a safe place to leave my parcel?

Nowhere safe and nobody in means your parcel leaves with the courier rather than sitting exposed on a doorstep. What follows is usually one of three things: another attempt on the following day, delivery to a neighbour if that’s allowed, or the parcel going to a nearby ParcelShop or locker for you to collect. You’ll be told which by text, email or a card at the door, and the same handover shows in your tracking history here. The lasting fix is giving your courier somewhere to leave things, since a safe place preference applies to future parcels too. Without one, a parcel that can’t be left keeps bouncing back and forth until someone is home.

How long will my parcel be held at an Evri ParcelShop or Evri Locker before it is returned to the sender?

Parcels are held for 10 days at an Evri ParcelShop and 3 days at an Evri Locker before being returned to the sender. Lockers run on a tighter timeline because physical locker slots are in high demand. Your collection message carries the specific deadline for your parcel, which is the date to trust. Once that window expires, your parcel is sent back to the retailer, meaning you will need to wait for a refund rather than receiving the item. If you cannot collect in time, a ParcelShop staff member may agree to hold it slightly longer if you ask directly, but Lockers offer no flexibility due to automated pickup windows.

Can I redirect my Evri delivery to a neighbor or an alternative safe place while it is in transit?

Frequently yes — and the sooner you act, the better. Evri lets you change delivery preferences on parcels already moving through the network — nominating a neighbour, choosing a safe place, or diverting to a ParcelShop — through their own site or app using your tracking number. Two limits apply. The sender can block changes on items needing a signature, and once a parcel is out with your courier for the day, the options narrow sharply. So act when you see it arriving into your local depot rather than on the morning itself. If you regularly miss deliveries, setting a standing preference saves repeating this for every parcel.

What should I do if my Evri tracking status states “Delivered” with an unfamiliar delivery photo or location?

Start by studying the photo properly, since it usually holds the answer. Look at the door colour, the step, the bins, the house number if it’s visible — couriers commonly deliver to the right street and the wrong number, and neighbours a few doors down are the most frequent explanation. Check with your own household first, then the neighbours the photo might match. If the photo clearly isn’t your address, report it to Evri with your tracking number and say so directly; the delivery data behind the scan includes location information they can check. Tell the seller at the same time, because under UK consumer law the order is their responsibility until it reaches you — they refund or replace, not the courier.

My courier left a photo of my parcel somewhere I don’t recognise — what now?

Try the practical sweep first, then escalate with evidence. Walk the route the photo suggests: a side gate, a porch you rarely use, a bin store, a communal entrance, a neighbour’s doorstep that looks a lot like yours. Ask anyone else at the address before concluding anything, since parcels get brought in and forgotten regularly. If it genuinely isn’t your property, save the photo, note the exact delivery time from your tracking history here, and raise it with both the seller and Evri using those details together. A specific report — wrong address, photo attached, time noted — moves considerably faster than “my parcel is missing”, and it’s also what the seller needs to justify a replacement.

Can I choose a safe place or a neighbour before my delivery day?

Yes, and doing it in advance is far more effective than reacting on the day. Through Evri’s own service you can set where parcels may be left — a specific spot at your address, or a named neighbour — and the preference carries across future deliveries rather than applying to just one parcel. Be specific when you describe the location, because “anywhere safe” invites the interpretation you didn’t want, whereas “in the wooden box behind the side gate” gets used. Two things to weigh: senders can override a safe place on items requiring a signature, and once you’ve authorised a drop, a parcel that goes missing from that spot is generally your risk rather than the courier’s.

My parcel went to a ParcelShop or locker instead — how long is it held?

Your collection message names the shop or locker and carries the deadline, which is the figure that actually applies to you. Practically, treat it as a this-week errand rather than a someday one, especially for a locker, where space pressure keeps the window tighter than at a shop counter. Bring a photo ID and the tracking number or collection code, and check opening hours if it’s a shop, since these are ordinary local businesses with their own schedules. If the deadline is going to beat you, ring the shop and ask — sometimes they’ll hold on a little longer. What you want to avoid is a return to the sender, since recovering the order then means a refund and a fresh purchase.
