How Bluedart Tracking Works
Tracking number
Blue Dart shipments are identified using a Waybill Number, Reference Number, or Order Number:
Waybill Number — the primary tracking code printed on consignment receipts and shipping labels. Blue Dart waybills range from 8 to 11 digits in length.
Reference / Order Number — merchant or customer reference numbers assigned at booking.
Tracking Features: Blue Dart supports multi-waybill tracking—enter up to several waybills separated by commas to query multiple shipments simultaneously.
Tracking status
Blue Dart's own not-found message gives away the most important status on this page:
Ordered — the seller still has the parcel.…
Blue Dart says it outright: tracking becomes visible once the shipment is handed over to them, so a number showing nothing usually isn't a wrong number
In Transit — moving through the hub network
Out for Delivery — loaded onto a vehicle for delivery today
Delivered — it's arrived
On an international shipment the entries thin out once the parcel moves onto the DHL network, so if your Blue Dart number goes quiet after export, check whether the sender also has a DHL number.
Supported services
Domestic Priority — the flagship service, with time-definite variants Domestic Priority 1030 (next business day by 10:30am) and 1200 (by 12pm) in selected cities, both carrying a money-back guarantee and real-time tracking
Critical Express — a Domestic Priority variant for passports and legal papers, with enhanced security packaging
Dart Apex — door-to-door within India for shipments of 10kg and above, with a 1200 variant offering next-possible-business-day delivery by noon in selected metros
Air Express Package, Surface and eCom Lite Surface
Smart Box, Express Pallet, Airport to Airport, Temperature Controlled Logistics and Charters
International export and import services
Internationally, Blue Dart sells DHL Express Worldwide products under its own name, and those shipments travel under DHL's terms of carriage.
Blue Dart and DHL Integration
The two have been formally linked since a sales alliance in October 2002, and DHL Express has held a majority stake in Blue Dart since November 2012 — currently 75%. Blue Dart remains separately listed on the Indian exchanges, so it's a majority-owned subsidiary rather than simply being DHL.
Blue Dart's own tracker accepts international waybills alongside domestic ones. What Blue Dart doesn't say is whether a separate DHL waybill is created when a shipment moves onto the DHL network — so if your Blue Dart number stops updating after export, check whether the sender was also given a DHL number.
FAQs About Bluedart Parcel Tracking
Late express is frustrating precisely because you paid to avoid it, so start by checking what you actually bought. Time-definite services carry a commitment and often a money-back provision when the promise is missed, while standard express quotes an expected day rather than a guarantee — the two give you very different footing. Look at whether scans are still coming: movement means late rather than lost, and a package already at the facility nearest you will usually land the next working day. Where a guaranteed service has genuinely missed its window, the claim belongs to whoever paid for the shipping, so raise it with the seller if you bought online. Keep the details of the delay, because a specific record is what turns a refund request into a quick decision.
Rescheduling is generally the easier of the two to arrange, and both are worth asking about early. Express carriers in India typically let you request a different day or ask for a package to wait at the facility handling your area, either through their app and website or by calling the branch directly. The branch call tends to work best, because local staff can act on it immediately rather than passing a request through a queue. Timing is everything: ask before the package is loaded for the day, since once a rider has it, your options shrink to whatever they can arrange by phone. If the sender marked it for a signature, someone still has to be present whichever option you choose.
That handover is by design rather than a diversion. Blue Dart is part of the DHL group, so international shipments routinely move between the Indian network and DHL’s global one — outbound packages join DHL for the flight and the destination leg, and inbound ones transfer to Blue Dart for delivery within India. It usually shows up as a change in the names attached to your scans, and sometimes as a second tracking number. Neither is a problem. What it does mean is that the company to ask about your package depends on which side of the handover it currently sits, and adding both numbers here saves working that out each time you look.
Cover depends entirely on what the sender arranged, which is the part most receivers never see. Carriers apply a default liability limit that is usually modest, and additional cover has to be bought at the time of booking — so a valuable item may or may not be protected beyond that basic level. Because the shipping contract belongs to the sender, they’re also the one who would claim. If you bought the item, ask the seller what cover was purchased before it arrives rather than after. On the day, check the packaging before signing and note any damage on the paperwork instead of signing clean, since a signature without comment makes a later claim considerably harder.
A missed attempt buys you another one, usually on the next working day, so a single miss rarely costs you the order. In the gap between attempts your package simply sits at the facility that serves your address. Riders here nearly always phone ahead, which makes an answered call the difference between a delivery and a wasted trip — if your number on the order is old or switched off, fix that first. Someone else at the address can normally receive on your behalf, including family, a neighbour or building security. After repeated failures the package goes back to the sender, so it’s worth acting after the first miss rather than assuming the third attempt will find you home.
Office collection is usually available, and it suits anyone who can’t be home during working hours. Ring the office handling your area — your tracking history shows which one currently holds the package — and ask them to keep it at the counter for you. Take photo identification matching the name on the package plus the tracking number, and check the counter hours before travelling, since express facilities often close earlier than you’d expect. If someone else is going in your place, they’ll generally need a signed authorization along with their own ID. Make the call before the next attempt goes out, since a package still at the counter is far simpler to hold than one already loaded onto a round.
Split it by the kind of problem. Anything about the delivery itself while the package is moving — rescheduling, a missed attempt, collecting from an office, a wrong address — goes to the carrier, since they hold it and can act. Anything about the order — a refund, a replacement, a package that never turns up, damage on arrival — goes to the seller, because your purchase contract is with them and they carry responsibility for it reaching you. Sellers can also raise formal enquiries as the shipper, which reaches places a receiver’s query doesn’t. For a package that has genuinely vanished, work both ends — the carrier for the delivery record, the seller for the resolution.
Three apps for three orders gets old quickly, particularly when one arrives with a national carrier, one with a courier and one from abroad. Put every number on one page here and each format gets recognised on its own, across a network of more than 1,000 carriers. Switch alerts on and you’ll hear which one has moved rather than opening each app in turn. Connecting your Gmail after a Google sign-in goes a step further, picking up order confirmations by itself so purchases appear without you copying anything. It also handles the case where an international order changes hands at the border and continues under a new number.
