Yodel Launches Package Lockers Trial in Northern Ireland

Yodel has begun a new parcel locker trial in Northern Ireland for a six-month duration. Launching at nine sites, including Lidl shops in Castlereagh, Newtownards, Shore Road Belfast, and Lisburn, the trial will be conducted in conjunction with PayPoint via its Collect+ network and will feature self-service parcel lockers from OOHPod. Customers will be able to select the click & collect option from shop locators, giving them access to the parcel lockers that offer 24/7 contactless access for picking up online orders whenever it is most convenient for them.
Yodel has been working hard to grow its Out of Home (OOH) offering and this trial is just the latest step in that direction. The company currently collaborates with PayPoint Collect+ to provide click-and-collect deliveries to more than 5,500 locations around the country. With measures like increasing the use of pedal power, which has resulted in the delivery of over 900,000 packages by cargo cycles over the past six years, the company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint by 17.5%.
“We are pleased to announce this trial of parcel lockers which is an exciting step for us as we look to grow our Out of Home offering. In recent years we have seen consumers demanding more convenient parcel deliveries," said Liam Rogan, Out of Home Director at Yodel.
"Our existing relationship with PayPoint provides customers with access to thousands of conveniently located stores across the UK. Their partnership with OOHPod, provides Yodel with access to a safe place for customers to collect at a time that suits them. The trial also enables us to provide a more sustainable service. By delivering parcels to a single location in an area we can reduce total mileage across our network as we look to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.”
