Supply Chain Quarterly: Walmart Inducts High-Tech Tablets in Freight Trucks
Retail giant Walmart has installed intuitive computer tablets in 9,000 of its private fleet. These telematics-linked devices deliver “near real-time visibility” for store deliveries. This approach supports a frictionless workflow by enhancing communication and reducing the waiting time at fulfillment centers or store deliveries.
Working closely alongside Telematics infrastructure and transportation technology provider Platform Science, these tablets are also equipped with an internally developed driver workflow application called NTransit. This customized onboard computer system provides private fleet drivers with an improved, high-tech driving experience, provides the business with real-time visibility via geolocation technology and provides shoppers with a more personalized and efficient delivery experience.
“Our new system creates accountability by allowing drivers to communicate what they accomplished on the road. That way, they are compensated for any miles and non-driving activities beyond what was initially planned,” stated the company in a release.
