This Week's Updates From Logistics Carriers Throughout Europe

In early 2024, European economic growth was slower than predicted, but momentum has grown during the year. According to the European Union, the April projection predicted modest growth, with the eurozone's real GDP increasing by 0.8% in 2024. By July, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had revised the forecast upward to 0.9%, citing strong private consumption and exports. The positive economic outlook is anticipated to boost demand for industrial and logistics properties, as increased consumption requires additional storage and distribution facilities.

Key logistics providers such as PostNL, Ceva Logistics, DHL Global Forwarding, Kuehne + Nagel, and PostNord are leading the charge with innovative logistics solutions and strategies aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability. This blog post dives into the latest logistics developments surrounding these giants, exploring how they are shaping the e-commerce logistics industry and addressing challenges in logistics management.

FedEx Is Unveiling a New Automated Sorting Facility at Memphis World Hub

The holiday season is quickly coming, and PostNL is once again prepared to deliver millions of more parcels around the country. The largest delivery company in the Netherlands is well-prepared for this hectic season, especially because Black Friday and Sinterklaas coincide this year.

From 28 locations around the Netherlands, delivery workers set out to deliver parcels throughout the country. During this time, PostNL employs over 1,000 extra employees. Additional lorries are dispatched, and parcel vans undertake extra journeys. On peak days, over 1,250 vehicles are on the road, and delivery staff make around 6,000 trips every day to guarantee that everything is delivered on time.

To guarantee that gifts arrive on time, PostNL has provided consumers with the following tips:

  • Select a delivery location: Consumers can select their chosen delivery location using the PostNL app.

  • Add a parcel friend: Customers can choose someone as a parcel buddy to follow and collect their parcels while they are not home.

  • Enable push notifications: By turning on notifications in the PostNL app, consumers may receive information on the status of their delivery.

  • Make modifications to the delivery: If customers are not at home on the delivery day, they can use the app to modify the time or location of delivery.

  • Contact the delivery worker: If an item is marked as delivered but has not been received, consumers can contact the delivery worker by clicking the feedback icon in the app.

Ceva Logistics Is Inaugurating a Large Solar Panel Installation in France

CEVA Logistics and TotalEnergies have recently inaugurated a 28.5 MW solar shading power plant with 58,000 panels placed at the CEVA Logistics facility in Blyes, France. The photovoltaic solar system spans 70 acres and is expected to generate 34 GWh annually.

Since 2021 and until its commissioning at the end of last year, this installation was built in close collaboration with the CEVA Logistics teams and on a phased schedule to accommodate the operational constraints inherent in the activities present on the site. To date, CEVA has deployed over 200 acres of solar panels across the world.
