It appears that Tiktok is planning to venture into e-commerce fulfillment to support users of TikTok Shop. The intention was hinted at by job postings on LinkedIn, where the company is seeking respective candidates in the US who can develop a free returns programme; take charge of inventory management; and set up a global warehousing network. One of the job descriptions also said the following:
"The e-commerce industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years and has become a hotly contested space… With millions of loyal users globally, we believe TikTok is an ideal platform to deliver a brand new and better e-commerce experience to our users."
With this move, TikTok is expressing its desire to be more than just a video platform and to serve as an e-commerce marketplace as well. In many ways, TikTok is emulating the strategies of e-commerce behemoths like Amazon and Alibaba by helping its manufacturers deal with promotional demand in specific markets:
“By providing warehousing, delivery and customer service returns, our mission is to help sellers improve their operational capability and efficiency, provide buyers [with] a satisfying shopping experience and ensure fast and sustainable growth of TikTok Shop,” the company mentioned in their statement.
