E-commerce platforms operating in Singapore are fuelling up to make the most of this year’s 11.11 with attractive offers and features for shoppers and merchants alike. A common offering by most stores during this peak sales period is an express delivery option and flexible returns policies for added convenience.

Lazada Singapore, for instance, recently launched the Priority Delivery service for more than 300 sellers including Nike and Adidas. Instead of the 2-4 days window, customers will get their orders within 2 days with no additional fee. Alibaba’s platforms in Singapore allow shoppers to check out their cart earlier, not having to wait till 11.11. They are also very generous in return policies. Products with a “local returns” tag can be returned to local warehouses after signing up online in-app. The reimbursement time will be reduced significantly.

Apart from introducing new features, the platforms are also trying to raise awareness for their sales events through different channels. Shopee, for example, has partnered with several offline retailers to organize challenges for consumers to collect Shopee coins for future purchases online. Taobao, on the other hand, launched an awareness campaign in October, collaborating with ice cream sellers.

According to data from previous years, luxury goods, furniture and electronics are popular searches during this sales event. Zalora is seeing high demand for luxury items while Amazon Singapore expects increasing sales in categories such as personal computers, beauty products, groceries, and electronics.

“E-commerce has become a way of life and this will continue to drive sales for 11.11. As traditional retailers begin to run their own e-commerce operations, or leverage e-marketplaces, transactions that would have otherwise been booked at physical stores may move online, bumping up sales during 11.11," said Mr Jackson Ng, Assistant Director of Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Business.
