Supply Chain Dive: OnTrac and LaserShip Introduce Transcontinental Delivery Service to Prepare for Peak Season
On Wednesday, July 29, 2022, OnTrac and LaserShip launched a transcontinental delivery service. The companies intend to cover areas across the West Coast and East Coast of the US, respectively. The launch remains a significant milestone toward the current merger between these regional carriers in preparation for the peak delivery season. Sorting centers in New Jersey and Los Angeles have started operations immediately, with plans to add new centers every week.
Furthermore, this merger has provided an amazing alternative to customers who use cross-country parcel delivery services of FedEx and UPS. Prior to the merger, FedEx and UPS dominated all packages moving over 800 miles. With this merger, LaserShip-OnTrac can provide their transcontinental delivery service to up to three-quarter (74%) of the US population.
According to a news release announcing the launch, the LaserShip and OnTrac merger intends to form a “pure-play, coast-to-coast carrier of choice for last-mile e-commerce deliveries.” In addition to the transcontinental service, there are several other growth initiatives that customers can anticipate over the coming months. By the start of Q1 of 2023, OnTrac and LaserShip intend to extend their reach to areas across Texas; including Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas-Fort Worth.
What’s more, the major priority of LaserShip and OnTrac is to provide excellent and affordable services during the upcoming peak season. Both companies are committing major resources and investments to expand their reach across the country. Plans are in place to open new sorting centers in more states, including Ohio, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
