Maersk, a global logistics integrator, has launched its first warehouse and distribution (W&D) facility in Cape Town, South Africa. The new facility spans over 10,000 sq. m., with an additional open yard space of 3,500 sq. m. Over 85% of the area is covered with racking, allowing for 7,000 pallet locations.
The brand-new facility will offer easy connectivity to customers using rail, road, air, and port infrastructure, becoming a crucial link in the end-to-end supply chain management for customers' cargo from origin to destination. It is located less than 5km from Belcon rail siding; around 22km from the Port of Cape Town and near N1, and N2 highways.
The warehouse management system guarantees clear visibility of cargo movement and better inventory management. The facility also has dedicated backup power and top-notch fire safety compliance with Automatic Sprinkler Inspection Bureau (ASIB) certification.
“Our first warehouse in South Africa is a significant milestone in our journey to building integrated logistics solutions for our customers in this region. This facility strengthens our commitment to our customers by connecting and simplifying their supply chains with end-to-end logistics solutions”, said Lubabalo Mtya, Managing Director of Maersk Southern Africa.
