Maersk Launches Innovation Center to Drive Supply Chain Innovation

Maersk, a leading global shipping company, has inaugurated its new global Innovation Center with a focus on enhancing the logistics chain using cutting-edge technologies. By developing new tools and solutions, the center aims to enhance operational processes and address challenges within the supply chain. Ideas will undergo testing and, if successful, will be implemented on a larger scale to benefit customers.

"Every company is navigating the macroeconomic environment, looking for new ways to ensure their supply chains are resilient. Our goal is to ensure we bring an intelligent pipeline of business solutions to make their supply chains more agile, more responsive to market fluctuations and more competitive," said Narin Phol, President of Maersk North America and Executive Vice President of A.P. Moller-Maersk.

As of today, the Maersk Innovation Center has already achieved remarkable milestones. These include partnering with MIT's Center for Transportation and Logistics for advanced research on supply chain challenges at the doctoral and post-doctoral levels. They have also implemented new software and scanning technology from Fetch to enhance warehouse fulfillment processes.

Furthermore, the center has adopted cutting-edge equipment and technology from Boston Dynamics to facilitate unloading of cartons from trailers. By utilizing Verity drones, they have improved the accuracy of warehouse inventory management. Additionally, they have tested warehouse automation procedures using BionicHive technology, which enables efficient sorting, picking, and storage of merchandise in tall operations.

The center has also explored new technologies and concepts through a tech incubator at the Port of Ashdod, Israel. As part of their commitment to sustainability, Maersk has purchased 460 electric-powered Class 8 trucks, demonstrating their early adoption of battery technology and route optimization software in North America for environmentally friendly solutions.
