Post & Parcel: Logistics Company Hermes Commits to Emission-Free Future with ESG

Hermes, one of the UK’s largest parcel delivery companies, displayed their commitment in the transition to a zero-emission electric fleet with a purchasing deal of 168 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinters. 

The new zero-emission vans will start operating before the end of the year and will be assigned to ParcelShop service from more than 5,000 convenience stores and other locations across the country. 

Apart from 168 Mercedes-Benz vans, the contract includes 132 diesel-engined Sprinter 315 CDI variants. After the successful trials in Enfield, North London, Hermes has decided to make its first meaningful investment in battery-powered vans. 

The company had also assigned Pod Point UK to install chagrin points at its networks of depots. Hermes wishes to replace all ParcelShop collections with electric vehicles as soon as possible. 

The significant electric vans deal is an effort of Hermes to fulfill its ESG goals and they will still have a long, hard journey ahead as Head of Fleet David Landy said: 

“The transition to a zero-emission electric fleet is integral to our ESG (environment, social and governance) agenda, and we’ve been keen to take the next, major step forward towards this goal. However, we are under no illusion this will not be an easy journey. From a purely operational standpoint, and given the current state of the technology, whichever way you look at it – whether in terms of range, payload or volume – a van with an internal combustion engine beats an electric one hands down.”
