TechCrunch: Former Verily CFO and Tesla Veteran, Deepak Ahuja, Joins Zipline

Deepak Ahuja, the former CFO of Verily and a veteran of Tesla, has been appointed as Zipline's first Chief Business and Financial Officer as the drone delivery and logistics firm speeds up its worldwide development in Africa, the United States, and other locations.

Deepak, who is leaving his position at Verily Life Sciences, a division of Alphabet, will begin in the new position on September 30. He will now be in charge of all Zipline's worldwide financial operations, including accounting, investor relations, and international sales. Zipline was founded in Africa and maintains operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda, although these regions will not be included in this position.

Zipline said that existing activities in the region would continue to be supervised by Daniel Marfo, who has been with the firm since 2019 and is located in Ghana. In 2020, Zipline elevated Marfo to the position of senior vice president, in Africa. The firm informed TechCrunch that Deepak will work on expanding Zipline's operations in the United States and internationally.

According to a blog post published alongside the news, Deepak is particularly impressed with Zipline's ability to provide vast scale with high degrees of automation and integration, all while maintaining minimal operational cost.

"The team has also worked hard to guarantee its solution has an exceptional and smooth user experience and generates minimum environmental noise," he said on the company's blog. “Zipline is therefore in a unique position to be a major force in solving this problem at scale. In fact, many executives in the healthcare and e-commerce space are beginning to appreciate a systems-based solution like the one offered by Zipline.”
