DPD UK, part of Europe’s largest parcel delivery network DPD Group, completed the acquisition of final mile delivery firm Absolutely. This move is part of the group's efforts to bolster its same-day delivery capabilities, allowing customers to enjoy a higher quality of these increasingly popular services.
Founded by the Thompson family in 1865, Absolutely is no stranger to those in the last-mile sector, known for its unique emphasis on sustainability. In fact, the company owns one of the largest e-cargo bike fleets that provide carbon-neutral final mile solutions in the UK. In terms of reach, Absolutely has a sizeable presence in the South East region and offers delivery services to over 2,500 clients, ranging from fashion brands and health organizations to law firms and media businesses.
Meanwhile, DPD UK specializes in UK domestic next-day and international deliveries with a similar focus on green logistics. As if today, it has about 3000 electric vehicles in operation throughout the UK and has outlined intentions to employ zero and low-emission delivery methods in 30 of the largest towns and cities by the conclusion of 2023. DPD also achieved a significant milestone in July 2021, back when Oxford was designated as the company's first all-electric city in the UK.
“We’re delighted to welcome the Absolutely team to our UK business. Same-day delivery is one of the fastest growing segments of the logistics market and this move allows us to further strengthen and expand our offer in this area, following the acquisition of CitySprint last year. Looking ahead, DPD UK is strongly positioned to meet this rising demand and consolidate our place as a market leader in same-day delivery,” Elaine Kerr, CEO of DPD UK, commented.
