Dollar General has announced expansions in its global supply chain network, which includes the opening of its first dual facility in Blair, Nebraska and two new permanent regional distribution hubs in Newnan, Georgia and Fort Worth, Texas.
“The recent additions to our supply chain network aim to provide greater efficiencies, create additional jobs and drive positive economic impact,” said Tony Zuazo, Executive Vice President of global supply chain at Dollar General. “We’re excited to continue growing our distribution center network to further support store growth and to better serve our customers and local communities.”
The recently opened distribution center in Blair, Nebraska, which is estimated to generate around 400 job opportunities at full capacity and is worth an investment of approximately $140 million in Washington County. This facility is supposedly the company's first ground-up dual distribution center, combining the advantages of traditional and DG Fresh supply chain networks as part of their strategic plan to gradually shift towards self-distribution of frozen and refrigerated products.
Meanwhile, the newly built facilities in Georgia and Texas will supplement Dollar General's distribution network by serving as an intermediary hub between import locations and the company's distribution centers. Additionally, there are plans to construct a 170,000-square-foot DG Fresh facility which will complement the traditional distribution center that started operations in 2019. Also mentioned in the press release was a $45 million investment to add 250,000-square-foot to the distribution center located in Jonesville, South Carolina. Last but not least, the retailer has commenced the construction of three previously announced distribution centers in Arkansas, Colorado, and Oregon.
