Cainiao Network, the logistics branch of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, has announced that it has successfully completed the trial of the full-chain cargo data exchange on the air route between Hangzhou, China and Liege, Belgium using the One Record standard.
The One Record standard was initiated by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and aims to create an end-to-end digital supply chain for air logistics that allows all relevant parties to interact with data easily and transparently. Furthermore, Cainiao's Liege eHub has been confirmed by IATA as the first air cargo hub in Belgium to apply the One Record standard successfully.
Cainiao Network's trial of the One Record standard has achieved several significant advances such as the first usage of RFID technology, which allows real-time cargo status updates for four transportation nodes to be pushed to One Record. This eliminates the need for traditional communication methods like phone and email and enables the exchange of information between IoT data and industry data. Cainiao has also implemented this trial simultaneously at both ends of the air route and is the first to transmit key node data for individual pieces of cargo.
“Cainiao strives to be a pioneer in implementing global air cargo industry standards and integrating RFID into One Record trials can further enhance the end-to-end visualization and transparency of air cargo transportation. Cainiao will continue focusing on the research and development of digital tools to enhance the operational efficiency as well as customer experience of our eHub”, stated Thomas Yu, Director of Global Hub Operations and Product Development at Cainiao Network.
