Microsoft is joining Bukalapak’s existing investors, GIC and Elang Mahkota Teknologi (better known as Emtek Group), to invest at a valuation between $2.5 billion and $3 billion.

On top of the investment by Microsoft, Bukalapak will be adopting Azure as its preferred cloud platform to support its 12 million merchants and 100 million customers.

“Through this partnership, merchants and consumers will have a more efficient and reliable buying and selling experience,” Haris Izmee, President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, said in a statement.

This deal takes the e-commerce unicorn closer to raising $200 million for their online expansion.

According to Tech in Asia, the company also hopes to get more people online and provide their employees and merchants with relevant digital skills training through this collaboration.
