TechCrunch: Amazon’s Smart Commerce Transforms India’s Local Stores
With Amazon’s latest launch, Smart Commerce, neighbourhood stores across India can now launch their own digital storefronts. This new offering is built atop Amazon’s Local Shops programme, which enables neighbourhood outlets to better serve their walk-in customers. On that account, over 125,000 neighbourhood retailers are already selling online via Amazon’s marketplace, which has invested over $6.5 billion in its India operations. This serves as seamless integration of the Smart Commerce programme into India’s local marketplace.
Stores of any size can sign up for Smart Commerce and access the best of Amazon’s shopping innovations, logistics, and digital payments feature to provide a reliable and trustworthy experience to their customers regardless of location.
As noted by Amit Agarwal, SVP, India and Emerging Markets, Amazon, “Today, we are excited to launch Smart Commerce that will enable any store to truly become a digital dukaan, and serve customers with the best of Amazon no matter where they are – in their physical store, directly through their own online storefront, or on Amazon.in.”.
