Channel News Asia: Alibaba Group Names New CEO for Lazada

Southeast Asia’s e-commerce giant Lazada announced James Dong as the group’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). James will helm Lazada’s expansion plans in Europe and serve as an adviser to the group’s chairman Jiang Fan and member of Lazada’s Board of Directors.
James’ appointment makes him Lazada’s fifth group CEO in five years. Prior to joining in 2018 as CEO of Lazada’s Thailand and Vietnam arms, James was the head of globalization strategy and corporate development role at the Alibaba Group. He drove the Chinese titan’s e-commerce globalization strategy and portfolio management, which included Lazada’s integration into the Alibaba Group
“Since Dong joined Lazada in 2018, he has quickly delivered success in his various roles. Dong is also a well-liked leader among locals, passionately sharing his knowledge to cultivate a strong local bench force,” mentioned a representative from the Lazada Group.
