49% of U.S. Shoppers to Leave the Bulk of their Shopping to December, Says Shopify
In a surprising turn of events following the Black Friday-Cyber Monday shopping frenzy, it appears that procrastinators are about to provide a late-season boost for merchants. With nearly half (49%) of holiday shoppers in the U.S. planning to do the majority of their holiday shopping in December, the latest Shopify-Gallup Holiday Shopping Pulse reveals intriguing insights.
Based on surveys conducted throughout the season with 1,888 respondents in November, 16% indicated that they wouldn't start their holiday shopping until December. Interestingly, this figure was almost double for men (21%) compared to women (11%).
Younger shoppers, under the age of 50, are more likely to wait, with 53% planning to do most of their shopping in December, while the corresponding figure for those aged 50 and older is 44%. The primary reason cited by younger shoppers is practical—they need sufficient funds to buy gifts.
