Natalie Berg, NBK Retail: They Know Exactly What You Want. Can Anyone Stop Amazon’s Domination?

Amazon has redefined the retail experience for shoppers all over the world: from fast and free delivery, one-click shopping, user-generated reviews to checkout-free stores. 

COVID-19 has pushed businesses to go digital and consumers to shop online. In a move to enter the grocery delivery sector, Amazon announced that it was offering free delivery for groceries. Retail analyst and Founder of NBK Retail Natalie Berg believes that the main appeal of this sector for Amazon is the frequency of purchases. 

“If Amazon Prime members start making weekly grocery purchases, Amazon becomes the first port of call for other categories.” 

Amazon is also acquiring a 16% stake in the online food delivery company Deliveroo. The online food delivery company’s services extend beyond food delivery. Consumers can also order alcohol, groceries, and medicine through the platform. This potential partnership with Deliveroo is Amazon’s first of many steps to becoming a one-stop platform for consumers. 

“Amazon is not just a retailer – it is becoming the rails on which the sector runs.” 

With its successful entry into the food delivery and grocery business, the ecosystem built around Amazon will become stronger than ever. Amazon is on its path towards market dominance with no signs of slowing down. Will the retail industry ever be able to keep up?
