The United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that it had hit “a historic record of mail and package volume this holiday season”.
As an effect of the e-commerce boom during the pandemic, retailers have urged consumers to start shopping early to avoid delayed shipments or delivery exceptions this holiday season. Research from Deloitte’s InsightIQ found that online sales in October led to a 50% year-over-year spike in online sales. Increased online spending also extended beyond Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Adobe reported.
USPS has extended its retail hours, expanded operational capacity with new equipment, leased new vehicles and extended its package delivery window to cope with the overwhelming volume. In addition to that, the postal service company urged the public to ship items early to make it for Christmas.
