Amazon launches its new biometric ID technology for Amazon Go stores. The biometric device is called Amazon One, and customers can pay with their palms once they have completed inserting their credit card and scanning their palm on the device.
After completing the setup process, customers can hover their palms over the device when entering the store and Amazon will automatically charge them for the items they purchased.
This technology could be a new trend as consumers settle for the ‘new normal’; consumers can pay and make purchases with minimal contact.
The new device uses computer technology to form a unique palm signature in the system; Amazon claims that palm recognition is more private than most biometric recognition systems. Images are also encrypted and stored securely in the cloud.
What do you think about using our palms as a payment method? Will this impact how we shop in the future?
