Some select users in Indonesia have had the chance to try out the new short-video offering on Shopee. It is the latest addition to Shopee’s pre-existing in-app social engagement tools, joining Shopee Feed, Shopee Live and Shopee Games.
Despite the feature’s similarities to ByteDance’s TikTok, Shopee has no intention to compete with the Chinese content platform.“Shopee Video” is to occupy the middle of the Shopee app’s bottom bar, in between the “Feed” and “Notifications” buttons.
The announcement comes not long after the launching of “Shopee Hotel”, a hospitality offering that allows users to book accommodations for their travels. This service will be available in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines very soon.
