Recently, Australia Post has recorded its biggest month ever with more than 52 million parcels delivered during December. There was a 20 percent increase compared to December 2019 due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic and more people choosing to shop online for Christmas gifts.
Food and liquor sales were up 50 percent, followed by fashion, and home and garden products which increased by 37 percent and 36 percent respectively. Also, according to Australia Post, they served over 21 million customers at their post offices across the country.
“These results were only made possible through the absolute commitment and dedication of our incredible team and our licensed post office and delivery contractor partners across the country that worked tirelessly under difficult circumstances for their communities to deliver a truly phenomenal Christmas.” Rodney Boys, Australia Post’s Acting Chief Executive Officer said.
As per Mr. Boys, the business has expanded 60 new or repurposed facilities, and 3000 additional vehicles on the fleet to keep pace with surging parcel volumes during the lockdown. 2000 motorbike posties would also undertake further training to be able to deliver packages in vans.
