Chipotle Mexican Grill introduced a virtual farmers’ market for farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers across the country.
Through a partnership with Shopify, California-based Chipotle is helping farmers develop their own e-commerce site, which includes covering all hosting fees on Shopify for 2 years and supporting them with the development of their digital store.
Demand fluctuations due to nationwide store closures had resulted in millions of pounds of fresh goods destroyed, especially since many of these suppliers did not have a digital presence to reach consumers. Chipotle hopes this initiative will provide suppliers with a new revenue stream and promote sustainable farming practices amid these uncertain times.
Chipotle and Shopify have been working closely to provide virtual onboarding training for these farmers, providing them with everything they need to go digital with Shopify’s platform.
