Indonesian e-commerce unicorn Bukalapak just launched Buka Investasi Bersama (BIB), a new fintech business unit and mutual funds selling agent. This new unit aims to provide everyone with equal access to investing.
In 2016, Bukalapak first introduced BukaReksa, an investment service in partnership with Bareksa, . Thanks to BukaReksa, people who are based outside of major cities and have no access to services from traditional banking and financial institutions were able to access investment services.
“We hope BIB will provide more accessible investment services for everyone and it will debunk the old assumption that says investment service is only for a certain group of people,” Teddy Oetomo, president of Bukalapak and CEO of BIB, said in a statement.
Bukalapak is now the first e-commerce platform to be licensed to sell mutual funds. Together with BIB, the company aims to reach 500,000 mutual fund investors by 2021.
