In an effort to help fleet operators perform better, Google recently launched its Last Mile Fleet Solution and Cloud Fleet Routing API. As their names suggest, Cloud Fleet Routing API focuses on the route planning phase of delivery while Last Mile Solution on the execution side. When implemented together, the tools allow businesses to optimize every step of their last-mile delivery journey, from the moment a customer places the order online to the time the purchase arrives at their door.

Among the features offered are i) embedded turn-by-turn navigation using Google Maps, ii) detailed delivery addresses and traffic data, and iii) a view of the driver’s schedule for the day to help them better plan their routes. While the Last Mile Fleet Solution is already in public preview for companies, the Cloud Fleet Routing API will only become available in the second quarter of 2022.

“The pandemic further accelerated both e-commerce and the number of deliveries, which were already growing rapidly. The increased strain on delivery networks, plus many other factors like driver shortages, poor address data, factory closures, and an increase in fuel prices have impacted delivery time and success,” said Hans Thalbauer, Google Cloud’s Managing Director for Global Supply Chain & Logistics Industries. “With Google Maps Platform’s Last Mile Fleet Solution and Cloud Fleet Routing API, we’re making it easier for delivery fleet operators to address these issues and create seamless experiences for consumers, drivers and fleet managers.”
