Behind The Scenes: Meet our Head of Sales DACH, Matthew Menneke

For today’s edition of our Behind The Scenes view on our team members, we have our Head of Sales DACH, Matthew! As the first member of our office in Berlin, he plays a crucial role in driving our expansion into Europe and growing the team in this region. Tell us, who is Matthew?

My name is Matt. I am 32 years old and originally from Melbourne, Australia. I would say, I am a typical Australian guy who enjoys meeting with friends and watching Australian Football while drinking a cold beer.

I have been working in sales for the last seven years and I love being my field as I get to meet people from various industries and I love solving issues and bringing solutions to people.

My hobbies include playing Australian Football, I have been lucky to find an Australian Football Club here in Berlin and we get to travel all over the country playing the sport I love. I also love going to the movies; I’m proud to say I am a movie buff and there are very few movies people can mention that I haven’t seen. Besides football and movies, I also enjoy playing paintball, it’s a weird one enjoy but it’s one that I have enjoyed playing for a long time.

What drew you to relocate to Germany?

There are many great reasons to call Germany home but for me, it was my girlfriend. We met while she was traveling around Australia for six months and I tell people she took me home as a souvenir. That was four years ago now and I haven’t looked back.

My first time to Berlin was actually part of a student exchange program in high school. This is where I learned to speak German and fell in love with Berlin for its energy and particularly the entire vibrant startup scene.

What attracted you to work at Parcel Perform?

I love solving problems and I see that Parcel Perform has a great product that solves solutions for businesses as well as the end consumer.

As someone who frequently shops online, I am acutely aware of the struggle customers feel when ordering online and having no idea when their parcel will arrive. Parcel Perform fills this gap by providing consumers with proactive parcel notifications so you are aware of your parcel’s delivery status in real-time. I think this is a marvelous idea and I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this great team to help e-commerce retailers bridge the communication gap with customers which will help bring the customers back to their online stores.  

One of your key tasks is to set up Parcel Perform’s Germany office in Berlin. Tell us about a day in the life in at Parcel Perform.

I don’t think there has been a typical day so far, the variety of work here makes each day unique and that’s one of the best parts of my job. I was able to attend the K5 conference event last week with our founders Arne and Dana. K5 is the largest e-commerce conference in Germany and brings all the major retailers from all over the country together to share ideas and learn the latest trends in online retail.

Since the event, I have been very busy following up all of the new enquires about Parcel Perform; especially with the launch of our new Europe office and I am feeling very positive about Parcel Perform’s potential in the German and wider European market.

In your opinion, who is the greatest salesperson to you and why?

I would have to say, Steve Jobs.lthough he is known as the founder of Apple and a great innovator, he was first and foremost a salesperson. When he first presented the iPhone to the world, he revolutionized the sales pitch. Steve Jobs turned sales into a spectacle for the world. Before his influence, sales was confined to boring boardroom meetings or pushy door-to-door salespeople.

They say the best form of flattery is imitation and after Steve Jobs presented the iPhone in this way all of the world’s major brands now launch their new products in a similar fashion.

What are you looking forward to in the next few months?

After our successful launch in Europe at the start of June, the next few months are going to be filled with excitement as we expand the German team and establish ourselves in the German and European market. I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful team and I very much look forward to what the next few months will bring.   

If you have a superpower, what would it be?

For me, it would have to be time travel, I am a huge history buff. My favorite period in history is the Roman period and I would love the ability to be able to travel back to see how life was like during this time.
