Can You Get Coronavirus From a Package Delivered From China?

It is totally safe to receive mail or packages from China. The COVID-19 outbreak caused by coronavirus from China created a huge concern over the safety of getting shipment from China. However, according to our current understanding about this new virus, it is proven that it cannot be transmitted over a long-distance shipment; there is no risk in receiving parcels or packages from China.

Infection happens via droplet, fecal-oral and direct contact with COVID-19 patients. The ideal environment for the virus to survive is a cold and humid environment around 0 Degree Celsius. It will also die soon once leaving its hosts (i.e. the human body).

FedEx Advanced Tracking is one of the most accurate and powerful tools for parcel tracking. This service gives real time tracking updates on the parcel’s date and time, along with smart intelligence on the predicted route of the package’s transit route and other related insights.

However, these products should meet certain requirements of the destination country in order to be imported. Parcels, packages, and mail from China are safe under the current circumstances. Why Can't I Track My China Post Package?

There are several possible reasons for these issues:

  1. Your China Post package hasn’t been shipped
  2. China Post's parcel tracking hasn’t been updated. Normally, the tracking information is only available after 2-3 days
  3. Your type of package is not eligible for China Post's tracking service
  4. Only the merchant has the right to track packages from China
  5. Your China Post tracking number is fake or has expired. In this case, you can check again after a week or contact the merchant for an explanation.

If the China Post tracking result shows as “Logistics Order Created or “Order Information Received” for several days with no further updates, it is because the merchant hasn’t shipped your package or the package hasn’t been collected yet. You should urge the merchant to send it as soon as possible. If your China Post tracking status still doesn’t change after a week, it might be a scam or fraud. You can consider filing a report to get a refund in time.

The China Post tracking number is a code with 13 characters, starting with 2 alphabetical letters “R” for small parcels and “C” for larger packages followed by 9 digits. E.g. CP789564309CN.

The 2 first letters indicate the delivery service chosen for the package. For example, E stands for express mail service (China Post EMS), LK is for ePacket packages, CT for China International Express service, UC for China Post Ordinary Packet.

The chain of numbers is generated randomly and the China Post tracking number is unique for each parcel. This China Post tracking number is used to track packages from China.

What does “Order Information Received” mean?

“Order Information Received” means that the seller has applied the China Post tracking number to the shipping software provided by a third party (WISH, Aliexpress, etc.) but has not shipped the item yet.

After applying the China tracking number, it will take 2 to 3 business days for the seller to ship the goods. China Post will update the tracking status of the parcel number

If it has been more than 3 business days and you still see the status like “Order Information Received”, you should be wary of fake shipping. In this case, contact the seller and urge them to deliver the parcel immediately. You also need to warn them that if you do not receive the actual delivery information within the next 3 days, you will report the seller fraud. Usually, sellers will ship the goods immediately to avoid disputes as well as receiving negative reviews.

How can I contact the official China Post customer service?

To reach the official China Post customer service, dial 11185 if you are living in China. If you are living outside of China, please dial (+86)10-11185. After dialing, you will hear a short welcome message and then get to choose the preferred language. Press 8 if you want an English speaking customer support to help you. If you don’t mind the response speed, you can send a mail to China Post main office at No.3 Financial Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100808 or send an email via feedback@chinapost.com.cn or epacket@ems.com.cn, specifically for China Post EMS packages.

What should I do if my China Post package delivery fails?

If your China Post package tracking status states “delivery failed”, it is likely that China Post has made a delivery attempt but did not successfully deliver the parcel to you. This can be due to an incorrect address or that there was no one to receive the package from China Post. China Post will keep your packages for about 2 weeks before returning it back to the sender. Please contact China Post as soon as possible to rearrange for another parcel delivery.

Can I get a refund from China Post if I did not get my parcel?

If you did not receive your packages from China Post, you should be claiming a refund from the online retailer. China Post is a third party package tracking and delivery company, they are not responsible for any form of refund.

If my parcel is lost, will China Post tracking compensate me?

China Post will compensate you if your parcel has been registered. China Post will conduct an inspection to confirm the loss. They will then estimate the value of the goods and compensate you.

If China Post finds that your compensation claim is valid, you should be able to get two or three times the shipping fee, but generally, the registration fee is not refundable.

In the event your mail is ordinary mail, China Post will not give you any compensation at all.

How often will China Post update my parcel tracking status? Why is my China tracking status not updating?

The frequency of China Post’s parcel tracking updates is not within China Post's control. This is because China Post joins an international association called Global Postal Union.

Parcels from China will pass through many member countries of this union before reaching their destination. China Post cannot control the status of your parcel while it is in transit between union member countries. This explains why at times you will notice your parcel status frozen with statuses like “Sent to Airline” or “Export Customs Scanned” for quite a long time. This may last for 2 to 4 weeks during the regular season and doubles or triples during the peak season. After the next member scans the package code and sends the data to China Post through Global Postal Union, China Post will update your China parcel tracking status.

If the destination country does not scan the parcel, or does not send the scan results to Universal Postal Union, your parcel tracking status will freeze permanently.

How can I contact China Post for parcel delivery queries?

China Post will not respond to email queries.
The most effective way to contact China Post is to call the hotline. If you are in China and speak Mandarin, please contact China Post hotline 11183 or 11185.

If you are outside China and do not speak Mandarin, you can try contacting +861011185 or +861011183 for help in English. However, these lines are not always available.

You can also register as a member in the Track China Post forum and post parcel delivery queries for China Post to get help. Please check the topic you want to ask about before you post a question on the forum to see whether it already exists or not.

Updates on COVID-19 from China Post

In order to prevent the risk of virus outbreaks and the spread of COVID-19, the Chinese government issued a directive that China Post must disinfect all mails sent to or in transit through Wuhan at its processing center.

How to track unregistered China Post packages?

In order to track unregistered parcels from China, your package must transit through Chinese territory.
